AGHAM Advocates of Science and Technology for the People strongly condemns the abduction of environmentalists and church workers Eco Dangla III and Jak Tiong on March 24.

Eco and his organization, Pangasinan People’s Strike for the Environment, are staunch allies and partners of AGHAM in environmental campaigns such as opposition to the revival of the faulty Bataan Nuclear Power Plant and the proposed entry of small modular nuclear reactors, awareness on the impacts of coal-fired power plants on the people and the environment, among others.

According to reports from Karapatan Central Luzon, Eco and Jak were abducted, mauled and dragged into an SUV around 8PM tonight, March 24, in San Carlos, Pangasinan. Prior to this violent abduction, Eco and Jak were victims of state-sponsored red-tagging due to their advocacy for the environment and the welfare of the people of Pangasinan. This incident serves as further evidence of the dangers of red-tagging, primarily perpetrated by the state and its rabid military forces.

We call upon the authorities to address this matter promptly, to locate Eco and Jak immediately, and to cease the attacks on environmental defenders.
