There was this pre-founding meeting of the preparatory group at the NIGS in 1998.

In its first year, AGHAM partnered with the College of Science  Dean’s Office, the Technology Management Center of UP and the Beta Epsilon Alumni Inc (from the College of Engineering) to hold a quarterly lecture on the state of science and technology in the Philippines at that time. There were a total of 4 lectures.

The first lecture was a view from the perspective of the people and was delivered by visiting NDFP peace panel chair, Luis Jalandoni on Aug. 17; 1998. His lecture was later published as a pamplhet.

Ceferino Follosco, former DOST Secretary and well known engineer in industry, gave the second lecture: view from indujstry.

The third was Dr. Jose B. Cruz, then dean of the Ohio State University College of Science, the first summa cum laude graduate of the UP College of Engineering. His lecture was a view from the academe. March 19, 1999.

The last, view from government, was held on Sept. 1, 1999. DOST Secretary Filemon Uriarte made an assessment of the state of science and technology in the Philippines.

AGHAM has gone a long way since its prefounding days in 1998 and its formal establishment on July 24, 1999.

Congratulations to AGHAM! May the force, i.e., the masses and their acceleration, be with you!
