Justice remains elusive 11 years after the extrajudicial killings of ethnobotanist Leonard Co and his research team

AGHAM-Advocates of Science and Technology for the People deplores the continuing denial of justice for the brutal killings of ethnobotanist Leonard Co along with farmer Julio Borromeo and EDC employee Sofronio Cortez. The wheel of justice grinds very slowly for the killing on November 15, 2010 of one of the best botanists our country ever had.

AGHAM honors Leonard Co, vows to continue struggle against forgetting

Leonard’s death is as heavy as the Sierra Madre mountains he trekked in. In honor of his life and his legacy, let us continue with the struggle against forgetting, and carry on with the fight against injustice. Let us demand that justice be served not just for Leonard and his companions, but for all other victims of the military and the state who like him are still denied justice up to this day.

Defend PH Scientists, Remove Antiporda from Govt!

AGHAM Advocates of Science and Technology for the People condemns the baseless, crass attacks being launched by DENR Undersecretary Benny Antiporda against the science community in the University of the Philippines. As clarified by UP Marine Science Institute Director Dr. Laura David, UP scientists are not “bayaran” and in fact render their services practically for free, as part of UP’s mandate to provide scholarly and technical assistance to the government.

Scientist group laments slash in DOST Budget, calls for greater state support for local S&T development

We, members of AGHAM – Advocates of Science and Technology for the People lament the renewed reduction in the budget of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), amid reports of an approved budget of P19.93B for the Department. This amount is P79.85 million lower than DOST’s P20.26 billion budget for 2019, and P25 million less than its submitted budget proposal of P20.18 billion. This is also the second year in a row that the DOST budget has been reduced, from a high of P21.2 billion in 2018.
